Sometimes when you run a competition the prize goes to the 'wrong' person - like winning a balloon ride but hating heights…. However in the case of our GO VIP MotoGP comp, it definitely went to a good home! ...

Edwin Savage, or Eddie to his friends, definitely got his 'money's worth' of his visit to the Silverstone GP after winning the trip of a lifetime by subscribing to Performance and he really threw himself into the occasion.

Eddie and his son Owain decided to camp for the weekend at Silverstone so they could really live the experience, despite as Eddie reminisces, "I haven't been here since it was Roberts and Sheene battling it out, I'll always remember as we were camping again and I forgot the tent pegs. Had to use knives and forks…" As luck would have it the circuit held a fitting ten year anniversary tribute to Sheene's passing that very weekend, with his friend Steve Parrish, brother-in-law Paul Smart and nephew Scott Smart all perfoming parade laps at this iconic circuit.

A regular Isle of Man TT marshal, Eddie is certainly a well known minor celebrity, but mostly because of his passenger... Molly.

Eddie, Molly and Owain man the exciting sectors of Creg-ny-baa and Union Mills but it is the regular fast laps on the bike the canine craves. "Molly hops up onto the tank, she has a special harness up there, she loves it. Obviously she has special aviator glasses and we often get up to some good speeds up over the Mountain. She's been made an honorary member of the TT Supporters Club and awarded ITV's Fan of the Day. Last year I got pulled over by the Manx police, and they asked my name. I said 'Eddie' and they answered, 'not you, the dog, its driving isn't it?!'

At this point a deadpan Owain exclaimed, "Yep that's right, the dog's gone viral…"

Back to the MotoGP weekend, and the pair (minus Molly) were hosted by the LCR Honda squad with two days of hospitality, a pit tour to see rider Stefan Bradl and as a special bonus got a full insight into the Repsol Honda team garage.

An in depth tour of the Öhlins truck triggered many questions from the knowledgeable duo with Eddie enquiring about shocks for his Kawasaki ZRX1100.

On Saturday night the 'Savages' enjoyed a wedding in the LCR hospitality and when the Öhlins team arrived on race day, the pair seemed to be on great terms with all the staff including team owner Lucio Cecchinello!

Eddie summed up the weekend saying" We've had an incredible time, so much to take in and great to see the paddock with an insider's view. I can't believe we got to visit the LCR and Repsol pits and have the bike explained to us, that was amzing. The LCR guys were a good crack and they put up with us pretty much all night when the wedding was on. We'll definitely be back, thanks Öhlins for this fantastic experience."

So we think it's fair to say that the right guys won the competition!
